Defining Key Terms in Advance Directives and End-of-Life Care
This course gives a basic overview of common terminology that comes up when we're talking about end-of-life care. It's important to understand what each term means to be clear on what you want. This course is free because this understanding is fundamental to completing an Advance Directive, in preparation for conversations with a doctor or other care professional, and when talking with your Health Care Agent.
Each section covers these terms separately so you can access whatever term you need.
Introduction [transcript]
[00:00:01] Hello, and welcome to the course on Terminology. I'm Cianna Stewart and I'm going to die someday. This is one of many courses available from Dying Kindness, and unlike some of the other ones, this is not going to be a linear thing. You can jump around in here. What I wanna do is to give you a place where you can learn about the kinds of terminology that you're gonna run into while talking with your doctor or while filling out your advanced directives, et cetera.
[00:00:29] Some of those terms can be super confusing, so I wanted to create something where you could actually just go in and learn a little bit in advance of talking with these folks so that you get a clearer picture while you are going through otherwise very complicated decision making. Now, as a reminder, I am not a doctor and I also know that whatever situation you're in is gonna be really personal to you. And so you should always take this as a general overview, a sort of a quick, you know, intro guide type of thing. And this is not the be all, end all at all of any of the terminology terms or the conditions or the considerations that you're gonna have to take into account for your particular situation. So make sure that you use this as information, and to support you while you're talking with your doctor, with your healthcare agent, and with anybody else that is gonna need to, talk some medical terminology with you.
[00:01:28] You can also skip around through this course to just find the things that you need to understand. You can share this with other people. Come back as you need to, to support you. Okay. Ready? Let's get going.
