In this workshop we'll explore our own ideas and preconceptions about death, what it means to die in America today, and some history of how we got here. Through games and exercises, we will practice talking about difficult subjects, learning how to handle them with a lighter touch.

Throughout our life we accumulate things, intangible assets, life lessons, stories, relationships, and more. What will happen to those when we die? In this workshop we will explore options for distributing what we have and how to communicate that. We will also talk through some pitfalls that families and loved ones often fall into after someone dies.

When you die, your loved ones will be asked what to do with your body. This is a huge, complex, and potentially expensive decision that they should not be forced to make while they are grieving. How can you guide them? What should you take into account? We'll talk about the options so you can make a decision and ease the burden on those you love.

Many of us will at some point be incapacitated for some reason or develop dementia, requiring someone else to speak on our behalf and make important health care decisions for us. This can cause enormous stress and lead to major arguments or indecision unless we've prepared through making key decisions and having conversations about what we'd want in that situation. During this session we'll break down what is covered by an Advance Directive and discuss how we want to be cared for.

The prospect of aging and dying in America can be scary. Loneliness is becoming epidemic. More people are aging solo, without partners, children, and/or extended family. Health care costs continue to rise at the same time that benefits are under threat. How should we think about our futures? What can be done now to prevent the risk of dying alone and lonely?
